Established in 1984, the Savannah Technical College is a private organization. The Foundation also supports student success through its numerous privately funded scholarships.
The state of Georgia delivers less than Thirty-three % of the operating budget for the university; therefore, for College to fulfill its mission of excellence, private investment is essential. Savannah Technical College takes its mission of providing quality, market-oriented technical education seriously and has done so for almost a century. Based on a history of partnership, pride, and service, the College serves more than 4,500 students each semester with campuses in Savannah, Hinesville / Ft. Stewart and Effingham County.
The Savannah campus is located on White Bluff Road and the Crossroads Technology campus is adjacent to I-95 at Crossroads Business Park. In Hinesville, Liberty Campus is on Airport Road and Ft. Stewart’s office is at the Army Post Office of Education. The Effingham campus is located on Highway 21 halfway between Rincon and Springfield.

History of Tech College savannah
1929: The School of Opportunities began through the sponsorship of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce. The original location was in Wright Square on Bull and State streets in the building that would become the Wright Square post office.
1930: The school exceeded its first quarter and moved to the second and third floors above McCrory on Bull and Broughton streets. General continuing education, distributive education, and children’s store courses were offered. At the end of the 1930-31, 466 students were enrolled.
1937: A night trade extension program was started at Savannah High and Cuyler Street schools and then transferred to Beach High School.
1938: During World War II, in addition to regular commercial education classes, war production and workshop classes were offered at the Bay Street location.
1959: Chatham County voters approve a $ 750,000 Bond issue to match state construction funds for two vocational-technical schools in the area. In a joint venture between the Chatham County Board of Education and the State Board of Education, the school combined with the Harris Area School of Commerce to become the Savannah Area Technical and Professional School.
1967: The Savannah Area Technical and Professional School officially dedicated itself to serving in the five-county area of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties.

1995: The office located at the Army Education Center in Fort Stewart closed, transferring operations to General Screven Way in Hinesville.
1997: The Savannah College was under the government of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education on July one, 1997, as the 50th biggest of thirty-three technical institutes.
2000: On July 6, 2000, Roy Barnes Governor officially announced the name change and for Savannah Technical College. 2002: Savannah Technical College was recognized as the third fastest-growing two-year university of its size in the country by Community College Week. The enrollment increased to more than 3,500 students.
2003: An era of unprecedented growth continued as the construction of two new state-of-the-art educational facilities on the Savannah campus was completed, the Crossroads Technology Campus opened in Savannah and building began on a fresh Liberty Campus in Hinesville.
2004: The Liberty Campus opened on Airport Road on Technology Drive in Hinesville. The Savannah Technical College honored former Governor Zell Miller with the 1st Annual Opportunity Award.

2011: The Student Enrichment Center on the Savannah campus was completed, funded in part through private donations to the Savannah Technical College Foundation. The 19,312 sq ft building includes 12 classrooms, road safety laboratories of a tutoring facility.
- The Head of Culinary Arts of the STC Department, Jean-Yves Vendeville, receives the title of Instructor of the Year from the Georgia Technical College System.
- Savannah Technical College Chief Kathy Love, Ph.D. and the president of Georgia Southern University, Brooks Keel, Ph.D. signed an articulation contract for logistics management among the 2 institutions of higher education. The articulation agreement lays the groundwork for students to complete a new 74-credit science associate degree in Logistics Management at Savannah Tech. Students will then be able to articulate or transfer their entire course work to Georgia Southern University towards the degree in business administration, logistics and intermodal transport.
- The Savannah Technical College of Savannah Culinary Institute created a new culinary and confectionery program. The Culinary Baking and Pastry Arts degree and associate diploma are based on the American Culinary Federation (ACF) curriculum, the program offers students a second culinary associate degree or diploma option at Savannah Technical College.
- Savannah Technical College joined the area’s public education leaders along with business and human services agency leaders to launch CAMINO, designed to double the number of Latino students who enroll and complete the university in the Coastal Empire.
- The Aviation Training Center at Crossroads Campus opens to offer programs that include certificates and diplomas in the manufacture and repair of aircraft structures, the manufacture of luxury vessel cabinets and the repair and installation of aircraft electrical equipment. - United Way of the Coastal Empire selected Savannah Technical College as a strategic initiative partner for economic independence with a grant of $ 290,000. - The Savannah Technical College Foundation has purchased 7 West Bay Street as the new downtown location for an expansion of the Savannah Technical College Culinary Arts program. The expansion wills more than double the available instructional space for culinary arts and baking and pastry arts. Senior students (second year) will take classes and work in the bakery and restaurant. Entry-level students (first year) will continue to take courses in the teaching kitchen and classrooms on the university campus in White Bluff. The bakery (breakfast/lunch) and the restaurant (lunch/dinner) will be attended by students and teachers of Culinary Arts and Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism Management, hospitality interns and students as part of their instructional programs.
